Speak Freely Resources - Last Updated April 27, 2005

This page contains links to information about the legendary Speak Freely VoIP software formerly available from John Walker - the original author. He started work on Speak Freely in 1991 and originally named it NetFone.

Information regarding the future of Speak Freely may be found on this Sourceforge site. One development from this is the Speex Patch.

An alternate development path was created in 1997 by Brian Wiles. His site is very outdated but does talk about work towards version 8.0. This site also has a lot of documentation and some history information.

John Walker uploaded these Speak Freely 7.6a files to Sourceforge on January 11, 2004. I have chosen to mirror them for download here in accordance with his "end of life announcement". I have changed the names to include the version number to avoid confusion.

These are older versions I have collected.

Speak Freely 7.5 from John Walker

Speak Freely 7.2 from John Walker

Speak Freely 7.2 from Brian Wiles

Speak Freely 6.0 from John Walker

NetFone Release 2 (September 1991) from John Walker

This is an X frontend for Speak Freely for Unix from Shawn Pearce.

This is a Qt based frontend to Speak Freely 7.6 for Unix.

This is a Java based frontend to Speak Freely 7.0 for Unix.

If you use JAWS, you might find the scripts created for Speak Freely 7.1/7.2 and JFW 3.7 by Doug Lee of BART Group useful.

More information and another alternate version can be found on the Speakup - Speak Freely Page.

If you have or know of any other alternate versions, I am interested in mirroring them as well.

Please contact me with any comments or questions about this page.
